SPORTS
We participate
with other Kaimia rural schools for summer and winter activities. Parents
are advised by newsletter of age and classes involved in each event
in advance. Oropi School usually hosts the swimming sports in March
of each year at the Greerton Pool complex. Other country schools in
our Association are Tauriko, Kaimai, Otepou and Pyes Pa. Principals
from these schools meet on a regular monthly basis on professional matters
and to organise events in which our schools are involved.
The following are annual events:
Term 1 March Swimming (2 events)
Tabloid event – hosted by Pyes Pa
Term 2 June Cross country at Pyes Pa
Term 3 August Winter Sports at Greerton
October Athletics – Pemberton Park
Term 4 November Junior Tabloids
Yrs 7/8 are involved in a cultural and sporting interchange with 8 other schools, the Tall Poppy Group. Term 1 swimming, Term 2 cross country, Term 3 speeches and maths problem solving, Term 4 athletics. Opportunity for higher representative level is available at West Cluster Regional events for elite athletes.

GYMNASTICS
Gymnastics is coached by Ms Liz Freeman, assisted by parents, during
Term 1 culminating in the Western Bay of Plenty Gymnastics Competition.
Fun gymnastics are held in Term 3 or 4.
SWIMMING
POOL
We are fortunate to have a heated swimming pool. Pupils will be swimming
in the school pool as soon as the Principal considers the weather warm
enough. All children are expected to participate in daily swimming unless
a note from parents is provided. The pool is not available
out of school hours.
MEDICAL
EXEMPTION FROM PHYSICAL EDUCATION (P.E.) & SPORT
Parents wishing to have students exempted from P.E. and sport must send
a written note to the class teacher explaining the reason for the exemption.
Top School Competition
In 2009 our school will compete in the huge event hosted at Gate Pa School in March. A team of year 5/6 children will participate.
Our children whom move to Secondary College often win representation at a higher level in various sporting codes.
