Inquiry Learning

"Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand."

Inquiry learning involves children in their learning and gives them ownership of their learning in order to foster a deeper understanding of the topic, rather than just rote learning of information.

Involvement in learning leads to the development of skills and attitudes that encourage children to seek answers to questions and issues.

"Inquiry" is defined as "a seeking for truth, information, or knowledge - seeking information by questioning."

Our traditional educational system has worked in a way that discourages the natural process of inquiry. Students become less prone to ask questions as they move through year levels. In traditional schools, students learn not to ask too many questions, instead to listen and repeat the expected answers.

Memorising facts and information is not the most important skill in today's world. Facts change, and information is readily available - what's needed is an understanding of how to get and make sense of information.

At Oropi, we foster the development of inquiry skills and nurture inquiring attitudes, thinking skills and habits of mind that will enable children to continue seeking knowledge and understanding throughout their lives.

e-Safety

What is e-Safety?

E-safety is concerned with safeguarding all users of the digital world, including adults. It is about learning how to use new technology in a positive way. We encourage all parents to learn what technology can offer and help their child to access content with support and guidance. E-safety is not about restriction, but about educating children about the risks and fostering independence.
